Steps To Install Xampp / Wamp & Set Up Wordpress

First of all, download and install (Xampp or Wamp or Lamp) server as the case may be. (Xampp server works in both windows and Linus OS, Wamp server works only in windows OS while Lamp server works only in Linus OS. OS stands for system’s Operating System). To be on a safe side, keep complying to the installation promptings i. e. by always selecting NEXT and CONTINUING.

After successful Xampp(in this case) the installation you are now ready to Add the WordPress files. But before then ensure you’ve started Apache and MySQL modules. You will see how to go about this after your successful installation of the Xampp. Learn to on MySQL and Apache automatically in your next launch. Visit this link https://bit.ly/1h54p1o

To add the WordPress file

Go to WordPress.org and download WordPress. Of course, you will be prompted on the homepage of the website. After the download, right-click on the file in the download folder and choose EXTRACT to extract the zipped file(s) after which you copy and paste it to the Xampp folder. Or either way (copy out before extraction). To achieve this, go to Local Disk of your system then to the Xampp folder, and paste under htdocs (normally the 6th folder from the top). Thereafter rename the same bearing the name WordPress to your desired or website has chosen name and hit OK.

Move to the database and create a database name with exactly the same name (safer side: be case and symbol sensitive) of your renamed WordPress file.

How to achieve this

Go to your default browser or browser of your choice and search for localhost/PHPMyAdmin (Ensure Apache and MySQL are started first) – click on New or Databases to create your database name. Once you enter the exact name then click on Create. That’s all! You can now proceed to run your WordPress installation.

To run your WordPress installation, on the same browser, open another or new tab and search for localhost/yourwebsitename. Replace yourwebsitename with the exact renamed name of your WordPress file, the same with that of the database name. I suggest you always use small letter cases to avoid inconveniences.

Great! Now you can continue with your installation.

Click on lets go!

On the second Window follow the below configurations or instructions

Choose

Username: as root

Password: as ---------- (that means nothing should be written for password. Leave the form blank).

Table prefix: as wp_ or change only the two letters to any other letters of your choice (advisable). Well, both works. don't remove the underscore (_).

Database Name: the same as your database name and that of renamed WordPress file. All the same.

Database Host: localhost

On the third Window

Go ahead to run the installation.

On the fourth Window

You are at liberty to making the choice of your inputs here but ensure you remember the choices you make. Very important!

Leave the search engine’s visibility unchecked. Do not check it.

On the fifth window

Login with your Username and Password

Have you done all of the above? If yes, then you are good to go!

Now, you are on your dashboard

Need to change your theme?

Two ways you can achieve this is by automatic or manual approach.

Automatic installation of themes

Go to Appearance – Themes – Add New or Add New Theme – Upload the theme as a zipped file.

After downloading the theme, before you may upload, first right-click and extract the file to ensure the main (installable) zip file does not have some other unnecessary files within it. In the case, you discover the main theme folder not zipped, right-click and zip it by choosing the compress and email option. Before you start compressing, check carefully and select the zip “check the option” and not the default “rar.”

So upload the zipped file and Install Now!

Manual installation of themes

Download the theme (theme files) – extract the installable file – unzip the installable file (always comes zipped) to the ordinary folder supposedly bearing the same name as of the theme. Now copy the extracted folder and paste under themes through Localhost. See how to achieve this below.

1.  Copy the extracted folder

2.  Go to Local Disk to Xampp to htdocs (normally the 6th file from the top) to themes and paste. That is to say a theme must be pasted under theme folder. Each type of file to its respective folder.

3.  Go to your browser and search localhost/nameofyourwebsite– go to appearance by the left hand side – to themes – the theme must have appeared among the featured themes. You can now activate the theme for use.
